DetailsThe design idea is easy to read because the silhouette does most of the work. A central pedestal forms two rounded, convex volume – a larger one at the base, a saller one beneath the top – joined by a narrow waist. On its own, the pedestal has a small but useful surface., while an added top can transform it into a more generous volume. Hamilton Conte's Irma table is a counterpoint to its close cousin Ines, which highlights a concave form.
Irma should have enough clear space around it for the base and top to be read as a complete object. In an open-plan dining area, keep nearby storage and seating visually quieter so the table can organise the room without competing with several other focal points.
“In everyday use, leaving some of the top visible will help the material and base relationship continue to read clearly.”
The piece is designed to remain visually relevant even when the surface is not styled.
Pair the wood with a material that changes the texture rather than matching it exactly—stone, soft upholstery or a quieter metal detail will give the room more depth.
